Time to spread my wings a little bit on the photo side of life. Stepping out into the world of medium format. Wanna see my new toy?

I'm amsued that my first shoot with the camera is -of- the camera, as opposed to actually with the camera. I might have to take it out and about tomorrow though, now that i've solved a particular battery/film loading mishap.

This will be fun!

I'm having a blast with it. So far i'm discovering I take pictures in an entirely different way with it. Probably some combination of being fully manual, the waistlevel viewfinder vs. a prism/eyelevel finder, and the fact that I know that each time I press the shutter i'm costing myself $1.60 : )

Mamiya is love.

I suspect they're not going to make a digital back for the 6 any time soon, more's the pity.

The 6 is their 6x6 rangefinger, yes?

I have to admit to keeping myself focused on the modular systems like the 645 and the rz67. I've looked at the 6 and 7 series cameras as well, though. The appeal there is the size/weight compared to a 645 or rz67 rig.

If I go the rangefinder route it, sadly, seems like i'd have to go the 7 rather than the 6. I'm reading that mamiya is dropping all support for the 6, and that includes spare parts and repairs : (

Don't ask me why I seem to have gotten myself locked into Mamiya as my medium format vendor of choice. It just seems to have lucked out that way. (I think best used gear price compared to the contax, pentax, and hassleblad systems i've seen out there. Though damn, are the hassy's sexy - even before I start thinking about the H3D series).

I can't wait for the day when photography is just something I do on weekends and evenings. (Especially since, right now, work is consuming even my weekends and evenings!)

Everybody and his dog loves the lenses on the 6, and I love the fact that I can stick it in my pants pocket. (Not particularly comfortably, mind you, but it's about the size of a 35mm SLR, and folds flatter.) The 7 is apparently about as good, but not square and maybe not foldy, I forget.

Wish I could afford to develop. Maybe some day soon.

ok

a) those photos are sexy, not because i actually can appreciate the camera as a high quality item (since i know nothing about cameras), but purely because you are clearly making love to your subject in these photos.

b) i -love- the laptop screen relfections in the lense in that one shot.

a) thanks! Hopefully I can make that a regular quality of my photographs going forward : )

b) thanks - though that reflection is actually my flash (with a bounce card opened up on it). That is making me think about wanting to do something with a laptop and lens reflections though - probably once I replace my laptop. The ibook is a fugly machine.
