Proof of concept
Feb. 4th, 2008 02:22 amI've got an idea for a set of shots that I want to do with people, but there were some things that I needed to work out/try out first. I think i'm pretty happy with the results, though.
First, the pictures:

Canon 5d, 24-105mm lens, 30s @ f22 - two flash shots and a lens adjustment

Canon 5d, 24-105mm lens, 30s @ f22 - two flash shots and a lens adjustment
Note - these are not photoshopped (other than cropping and some saturation/exposure adjustments). I haven't ever been happy with attempts to 'recreate' a multiple exposure look in photoshop, so i decided to try a different route tonight.
I set up my camera and flashes. Set the camera to a long exposure, small aperture and 10 second timer. Killed the lights, hit the camera button, set up for the first 'short' at which point i fired a flash in my hand that also fired the slave aimed at my face. I then killed the remote on the flash, zoomed the lens out a little more, repositioned myself and fired the now single flash up on my general direction.
It took about a dozen attempts to end up with two shots that I really liked. I definitely think this will be very workable when other people are the target, though. This'll also be a lot easier when I get batteries for my remote triggers. I also have some fun ideas on how to play with this on the film camera side of the equation - but that will have to be for a different night, I think.
Now to flesh out the shoot idea a bit more and then go hunting for victims :)
