Have you seen any of the "light painting" photograpy? Long exposure in a dark place illuminated by design. Same look, can be less abstract, very neat. I have a poster of it looking like that floating in a gothic cathedral arch, Steve Man did some really cool stuff with it lighting up large structures (bridge), I've seen it done by the NY urban exploration crowd, etc.

Yah - I've done it with laser pointer and fire, mostly. I want to do more of it but haven't touched it since I moved out here. I like the use of light painting instead of flash to illuminate portions of a scene in a long exposure. I have a bouncer's flashlight that has a really targetted illumination range that's really good for that.

I should play with that again at some point.

It's also fun to combine lightpainting with flash. Use a flash to burn in an initial shot of an image and then the light painting for various effect.
